The movie doesn’t review what happen in her childhood, however, Alice tells Michael she thinks her drinking is genetic from her father alcohol abuse or maybe it’s from her mother always making degrading comments since she was a young child. Alice coming home several times in the middle of the day from social drinking with friends, which causes her to forget about her family obligations.
